Small Businesses Deserve a Professional Appearance

A guide to the perceived costs of a website - dispelling the myth that a professional and effective website will cost your business a fortune!

I have been designing websites for several years and across my travels have found that small businesses are compromising on the quality of their website.

Would you consider sending a printed brochure to prospective customers if the text was poorly positioned and the colour scheme looked like something from a 60's VW van?

In the UK, web design pricing seems to vary from the affordable to the ridiculous all in the space 5 design companies.

It is time that a website is viewed in the same way as a brochure. More care and attention needs to be given to small businesses who do not have a huge marketing spend but still deserve a quality website.

I like to use the analogy of baked beans! A persons perspective of a website is usually based on the amount of money they are willing to spend on it. Therefore, affordable means cheap and nasty!

I have always specialised in smaller businesses - both informing them at a level they can understand (out with the buzz techie words) and by providing quality services.

Why the name Oranda Design?

I chose the name because it sounds interesting even though it is not a word many people know the meaning of.

The name Oranda Design comes from my love of fishkeeping. Not many people know what Oranda means and often it is confused with the word Orlanda.

An Oranda is a double-tailed fancy goldfish with a cap (wen) that resembles a beret! This unique feature adds to the character of the fish and gives it a very cute appearance.

All the iconography and design on my website is based on a goldfish I have, Benny the Oranda. He is the company mascot!
